I just got back from watching Memoirs of a Geisha. There's only one thing i have to say before i start: I HATE MY BLADDER!

Ok...now tt the ranting is gone. I'd like to continue.

Memoirs of a Geisha is a very beautiful piece of work, the landscapes are breathtaking, the cast of actors are just incredible [though i dun like auntie's forced english]. There is nothing for me to say negative about this film...except for one. This film is not for non-appreciative movie-goers. Heck, i dont even think people should see this with the purpose of getting a good love story or epic tale. Based on a book, there are many aspects that are not adressed. First thing i noticed is that pumpkin was not supposed to be called pumpkin until Chiyo coined it for her. Well, anywayz i noe the story and tt doesnt matter. I am very happy it has brought to life by such a wonderful cast. Gong Li was the most exceptional in this film. Like wad the reviews said, she left a deep deep impression even her screen time was long gone, because she portrayed the evil so well it had seemed to stick to the fabric like smoke on clean sheets. Even in the book her character left a deep impression on me.

I should commend Zhang ZiYi on her effort in English. Though it sounds a tad bit weird, i support her in more challenging roles. I noe this was obviously a difficult task. Knowing hr acting style, there were times when she didnt act her best, especially in the initially parts of the movie. But im not complaining here, i loved the movie...from top to bottom. Its a pity they didnt give the details about what had happened during the war, which should very well explain why pumpkin was so rowdy and loud, and where hatsumono and korin went. Oh yea i forgot one thing. Its hatsuMONO, not hatsuMOMO.

Im giving this a 8/10, because its so pretty. The people, the scenery and the atmosphere. I took off two points because
1. The beginning and ending were cut off. They did have a child you know.
2. This movie will only be truly appreciated if the book was read first. This was more of a fanservice for the book-readers.
